So back in the Spring, I made an open back top that I absolutely fell in love with. I loved it so much, that I wanted to make something similar to transition into the Fall. So. I drafted a pattern out of a top that I already owned and came up with this Origami top. I vlogged my entire process for a video that I will later post. It’s going to be titled “Behind the Scenes of a DIY Fashion Blogger”. I wanted to show you my creative process, and you’ll see me drafting patterns and coming up with ideas for my blog and YouTube, but more info will come out once the video is out which will be in a few weeks. I’ve been doing quite well with the consistency of my videos. I have a video set for every week as of lately, so be sure to subscribe to my channel if you haven’t yet.
Enough with the side rambling. So like I said, I drafted the pattern to make this top, but I will show you in how to make it with a pattern in a future tutorial which will be released in a bout 2 weeks. (Mark your calendars) This is a loose fitting top. I love the peek of skin on the lower back because it’s just enough. If you are not a fan of showing skin at all, you can easily make this top a bit longer to where the cutout hits your bottom. The fabric that I chose for this top is a sateen. It has a small amount of stretch and it has a nice, satiny finish. For this top, you don’t necessarily need any stretch. You can make this top with 100% cotton if you like because of the open back, it allows for a lot of movement without the wrinkles.

So, as some of you may know, I graduated from college back in June so now I am currently in job hunt mode. Well, not really so much a job; I’m looking for a career that I would enjoy. This post is my ode to that career women I dream of being. I’m very ambitious. I want it all! When I do start working, I’m still going to keep my blog up and running. I’ve built this thing from the ground up and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I really enjoy blogging and I feel like I can manage it all. I’ve managed it while I was in school full time, so I hope it’s no different.
So this outfit is a bit more on the business casual side because of the bright colored shoes. I love fuchsia and navy blue paired together. It’s just a beautiful coupling. The neutral animal print purse adds a more classic and high-end look to the entire outfit. Besides the shoes being my favorite part of the outfit, my second fav is the skirt. Can you believe that it was only $10?! Yep! I love the box pleat in the front and the belt that it came with is so modern and chic. The fabric is so beautiful and soft and I love that it allows you to look professional yet fashionable as well. I purchased the skirt from JC Penney. I think so many people have turned away from JCP. I don’t understand why though. They have such amazing clothing at amazing prices. I remember last year buying a tuxedo blazer for only $2. It was brand new with absolutely nothing wrong with it. JCP is definitely one of my favorite stores to shop. Do you shop there?
I love that my entire outfit was on clearance. My top was only $4. A crispy white button-up is a classic and must have in everyone’s wardrobe. My purse was around $6. An animal printed bag is such a fun added touch to any outfit. This is also a staple that should be in a every woman’s closet. My skirt I mentioned above and lastly, I cannot forget my shoes. JustFab was having a buy 1 get 1 free deal so I jumped right on it. A fun-colored shoe is a must have for those days when you want to dress up and hang out with the girls or a fun date with your guy. If you don’t have any of these classic pieces, I won’t be mad if you stop reading my blog and go get them for your closet now. It’s soooo needed, so I’ll understand. So what is your work uniform? What do you wear to work? I’d love to know. Also, I wanna to know, what is your dream job? Are you working there currently?
Thanks for stopping by! XOXO
So in my previous post, you’ve seen my beauty must haves. Along with beauty comes fashion, so here are my top fashion summer essentials and the reasons why I love them. 1. Birkenstocks: These sandals are what’s hot for this season. They have been seen on just about every fashion blogger and every celeb. Not only do they pair well with so many outfits, but they are extremely comfortable. Also, I cannot forget to mention that they look good on everyone no matter your age or sex. Isn’t that great!? Mine were given to me as a graduation gift from my little brother of the men’s fashion blog Victor Alexander. And as a lover of black, the color that he chose for me was perfect. They are a bit pricey, but they are well worth it. I promise you.
2. Panama Hat: These straw hats have been everywhere these past couple of years and I finally got my hands on one. Let me first say that I usually hate hats and I usually hate putting anything on my head, but when I found this hat and tried it on, I felt that this hat looked great on me. I love this hat. It looks great when I wear my hair down in a straight style, with a side bun, or with a side braid. It’s a very simple piece, but it’s a great addition to everyone’s closet.
3. Brightly Colored Open Toe Heels: Ok. So I spotted these in a video by one of my favorite Youtubers, Hey Claire. I absolutely love her style. It’s so simple and clean. Anyhow, once I saw them in one of her hauls, so of course, I had to get them. I went to Zara in DC recently and they were having an amazing sale. Who knew Zara had sales? Anyhow, these heels were on sale for only $39.99. They didn’t have my size in the store so I quickly ordered them online. I cannot wait to wear these. They are so sexy and the hubby told me he loved them on me. So obviously, they are a winner in my book!
4. Brightly Colored Crossbody Bag: Because I wear a lot of black, I accessorize with brightly colored accessories and this bag gives me that perfect pop of color that I need. This Kate Spade bag was gifted to my as a graduation gift by my husband. I was absolutely shocked that he even picked this out. I love that it’s small for those days that I will be walking for long periods of time and do not desire to carry a big bag. The small size is perfect! I’ve always dreamt of owning a Kate Spade and this bag couldn’t be more perfect. Love it!
5. Bralettes: These are a fun addition to any Summer wardrobe. These make a subtly sexy statement when worn under loose tanks or with tops with low hanging armholes. It’s a small added detail when pairing with simple tops and takes your outfit up to another level. I got mine from Charlotte Russe for $4/each. Can’t beat that price!
What are you fashion summer essentials? I’d love to know.
Tulle Skirts have been on trend lately, so a sew along over on Pretty Girls Sew came in great timing. I made a total of 3 tulle skirts. This one in particular has a more solid, poofy look instead of the more fluffy and voluminous skirt which I’ll post in a future blog post. The reviews of the Simplicity tulle skirt pattern were terrible. When I looked over the pattern myself, I could believe how confusing and the amount of unneccesary steps it would take to make a tulle skirt using that particular pattern. So I wanted to experiment and make a few of my own. So like I said, this is just one version that I made. I paired it with a t-shirt that my brother, Joshua and I collaborated on. This shirt will be available in the future over on Pretty Girls Sew. So I provided a tutorial at the end of this post if you wanted to make this particular skirt.

So over the course of a few weeks I’ve stopped by a few stores and luckily I scored great deals on some amazing shoes. I can honestly say that I was extremely lucky on a few of these purchases. You will definitely see them in my outfits of the day photos for Spring and Summer. So along with a video haul discussing the prices , look, and feel of the shoes, I decided to take aditional photos so that you guys can take a closer look of the detail in each shoe.
Share your favorite places to shop for shoes below. I would love to hear and I’d definitely love to check those places out. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi everyone. So for Pretty Girls Sew (www.prettygirlssew.com) this month we had to shop our closets or the Thrift Stores and take 2 items from Drab to Fab. And boy was that a lot of fun!!!
When I heard the challenge for the month, I already knew what I wanted to create. I wanted to make a romper with a heart cut-out in the back. How cute would that be right? Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way for me. It’s obvious that I had a lot of material to work with, but the way the dress was made, it was difficult for me to make shorts. I was pretty discouraged….only for a few hours though. LOL!
So this dress was pretty difficult for me to alter. The dress was strangely made. I had to do a lot to make the dress exactly how I pictured it in my mind. This dress took me 3 days to fix. Below are the steps that I took to alter my Grandma dress.
1. Removed both sleeves and slimmed one sleeve to fit my arm.
2. Slimmed the body of the dress to fit the curves of my body.
3. Cut the top off at an angle to mimic the one-shoulder look.
4. When I cut off the top, I cut the zipper, so I had to remove the old zipper and replace it with a new one.
5. I slimmed down the arm hole so that I was able to place my arm sleeve in it perfectly.
6. I created a high-low look, so I hemmed the dress at two different lengths.
7. I had to add larger darts because the dress was originally made for a big breasted woman, which I am not.
8. Lastly, I just made a few small alterations to make the dress hug my body at the right spots.

I hope to inspire you all to think outside the box when it comes to thrifting. Comment below and tell me how you think I did?! I would love to hear from you. Btw, if you follow me on Instagram, you know how I came up with the title of this blog post. LOL! Thanks for stopping by!
I wanted to do a separate blog for the shoes that I wore in my Pretty Girls Sew (www.prettygirlssew.com) submission for the month of July. Yes! They are that fabulous! :) Anyhow, I basically purchased them from the thrift store for only $5.
The first thing I did was cover them in a pink cotton fabric. To do this, I followed the steps on the blog pictured below. Click on the picture and it will take you directly to the blog. The blogger did a fabulous job taking pics and she explained it very well. After I covered my shoes with my fabric of choice, I saw these fabulous shoes accessories that I have been wanting for a few months now but never purchased. They are called Heel Condoms. I know…I hate the name, so let’s call them Heel Sleeves. Aren’t they just ADORABLE! You can find them at www.theheelcondoms.com. They range from about $25-$30. Pretty reasonable, I think. Basically, they wrap around your heel and you can remove them and wear them with any heels that you have. They work best with heels that have a back to them. Anyhow, I decided that I was going to try my hand at making some of my own and guess what? I was successful! I love the way mine came out and I can’t wait to make more. So here are the finished shoes.
So allow me to to tell you a little about Pretty Girls Sew. Pretty Girls Sew is a group of 4 women who live in different parts of the US. We kinda met on Instagram by viewing each other’s photos. We all have a love for sewing and decided to come up with this group. Every month, someone from the group chooses a pattern that we all must purchase and make. The best part about that is, we have to be creative and make it out own. We have a month to create and take pictures in our DIY outfit and post it on the site (www.prettygirlssew.com). At the end of the month, it’s so exciting to see what everyone came up with because everyone has their own style and all of the ladies are extremely talented. This is not a competition whatsoever. We do this for fun. We do this because we enjoy sewing. Another awesome thing about Pretty Girls Sew is that you can be apart of the group. If you are a pretty girl that loves to sew, then what in the world are you waiting for? Maybe you don’t know how to sew and want to learn how. Visit the site. There is tons of information on how to sew. There are people from all different levels of sewing; beginners to experts. No one’s judging. We are all learning and having fun along the way.
With that said, for the month of May, I picked out the Vogue pattern pictured below. I’ve always wanted a vintage dress and since I wanted to start wearing more dresses this spring and summer, I felt this was the perfect choice. So there is a theme that goes along with each pattern also. The theme for May was Spring! What comes to mind when you think of Spring? Floral prints, pastels, bright colors?
When I think of Spring, I think of the flowers that finally get to bloom after hibernating all Winter. LOL! I was inspired by the dress that Lucy Liu wore at the Golden Globes this year. It was the Fall 2013 Carolina Herrerra dress. I just fell in love when I saw it. Isn’t it gorgeous?!
Ok, so here is my interpretation of the dress. I changed it up a bit. I altered the back so that it had a deep v and two ties that I was able to tie in a knot in the back also.
Fabric: Amy Butler Love Bliss Bouquet in Teal (Amazon.com)
Shoes: Just Fab
Let me know your thoughts about this pattern and or dress that I made and don’t forget to join me over on PrettyGirlsSew.com for next months Sew-Along.
