Get Ready With Me: OOTD Photos

As a fashion blogger you always have to make sure that everything is perfect and appealing for your viewers.  A lot goes into being a blogger that a lot of people just don’t know about. I need to a “Behind the Scenes” post!  Comment below if you would like to see what it takes to becoming a blogger. Anyhow, because I don’t have a team of people helping me get my hair and makeup ready for my Outfit of the Day (OOTD) photos that I must take, I have to do it myself.  And trust me…I need it! LOL!
So today, I wanted to show you how I apply my makeup.  As far as my skin, I have dry, sensitive skin? If you do, comment below so that I don’t feel alone because I feel like everyone has oily skin and not me.  I have really bad exzema too. I had in on my both my cheeks so bad and I was so embarrassed to go to my classes. I finally figured out how to tame it and I haven’t had a flare up on my face for a year now. Yay!

Little Black Dress

Ok. Ok.  You guys should already know that I love black and I wear it just about everyday.  I’m slowly trying to sneak it into my blog without it looking boring.  When wearing black, something about your outfit or accessories should standout.  Not necessarily like a pop of color, but just something. In a previous post, I wore a simple t-shirt dress and paired it with simple leopard sneakers.  Well, I loved that dress so much, that I decided that I was going to recreate that dress but add something to it, so I added a flutted hem.
BLU5All I did to make this dress was, create a pattern using my t-shirt dress that I own. It was quite easy.  The dress took me a total of 3-4 hours to make.  It was quick and I definitely plan on making another one.  The fabric that I used was a one way knit fabric.  I didn’t want too much stretch, but I wanted it to have some stretch and some movement to it.  Also, the fabric that I chose, made the hem of the skirt move more freely and take it’s shape that I love so much.
lbdSo, here is my look all pulled together. All accessory details will be listed at the end of this post.

Be prepared to see another dress like this because this is a must have in my closet. Do you love simple wearable dresses as much as I do?

Savannah Adventures

Ok, so while in Savannah, I wanted to present a fresh and clean look that was easy to pull off and somewhat easy to wear since I had both my children.  Mind you, I said somewhat because I chose to wear white and you know if you have children, it’s hard to keep clean when chasing them around.  The lipstick that I used was the perfect accessory to my overall look. It gave my look a bit of a retro feel so I really liked that.  I’m really into bright lips this season can you tell?

The lipstick that I used was the perfect accessory to my overall look. It gave my look a bit of a retro feel that I really liked. It has a matte finish and it is quite drying, but if you moisturize your lips prior to putting it on, you’ll be fine.  And the best part is, it lasts all day.  It’s actually kind of hard to clean off.  I’m really into bright lips this season can you tell?

DC Adventures

So every other month or so my husband and I take a trip to DC to visit our best friends.  Every time we go, we always have the best time.  For this particular trip, we wanted to basically relax and get our minds off of the stresses in our busy lives.  So what did I wear?  Remember, when I’m outside of my blogger mindset, I incorporate black in every outfit.  I either wear black from head to toe or I will incorporate it into what I’m wearing.  Now that I think about it, I do sprinkle a few black pieces here on my blog but not as much as I usually wear it in real life. (I’ll go into detail with why I wear color on my blog but not as much in real life at a later time.)
blk9Because we were doing a lot of walking, I decided that I was going to be as comfortable as possible.  I decided that I was going to play up my makeup as my fashion statement in my outfits.

So I started using a new foundation and my skin has improved 110%! I used to have small bumps all over my face (irritation from several different foundations) and dry patches (eczema) on my cheeks.  I’ll do a separate post on that though. I filmed a “Get Ready with Me” so that will be posted soon.

So while in DC, my fellow Pretty Girls Sew co-founder told me she was going to be in the same location I was (the National Harbor) so we decided that we were going to meet for the first time.  I was beyond excited!!!  It was like meeting your long lost sister who you were separated from at birth.  I could have hugged her all day!  I’m so happy to have met you Ye.

I went on the brand new Ferris Wheel.  I’m extremely terrified of heights and I never usually get on any rides. I only got on this thing for my husband. LOL! I will never do it again.

UpCycle an Old Desk

Hi guys!

So I have been wanting a Makeup Vanity for so long.  Obviously there are plenty out there, but the prices were killing me!  There were even some really nice ones on Craigslist, but I would have had to drive too many miles just to pick it up, and I know my husband wouldn’t be up for that. So I decided to try a desk when I saw this one in the store.  It was small enough to be a vanity and had enough drawers to house all my makeup.

DSC_0035This desk was only $10! I purchased it at the Goodwill and it was on sale that week. So I thought that was a score.

I wanted a really clean & classy look to it, so I decided to paint it black and white.  We purchased some inexpensive paint from Walmart and came out with something that was better than I could find in a store for the price that I got it for.

If you decide to upcycle some furniture or even make your own Makeup Vanity, send me a pic or comment below. I would love to see! Here are the steps that I took to complete this project.

1. Removed hardware and sanded old varnish or paint off of the desk.
2. Painted desk with a primer, preferably Kilz.
3. Paint desk with white paint.
4. Outlined each drawer with a paint brush and black paint (You don’t need much so you can purchase a sample size from Lowes).
5. When the desk has completely dried, I sprayed it with a clear protectant.
6. For the hardware, I spray painted it with a glossy black spray paint. Once dry, I sprayed a clear protectant over it and screwed it back onto the desk.

Product Review: Cover Girl’s Whipped Cream Foundation

Hi Everyone!  So this is a new series that I wanted to start on my blog.  I wanted to turn my love for shopping for makeup into benefiting you; my readers.  Many of us are always on the hunt for the perfect products for our skin so on my hunt, I want to share with you products that are worth the money or products that are a just a waste.
So for my first review, I wanted to start off with a brand new foundation from Cover Girl.  It’s from their Clean line, and it’s their whipped foundation.

Does it have a scent?
No scent.

What is the consistency like?
This foundation definitely reminds of Maybelline’s Dream Mouse.  The formula is a lot more lighter that that foundation, but it does have the consistency of a light mousse.

How does it feel on the skin?
This foundation feels satiny on the skin.  It feels smooth and silky. I have dry skin so I like the way it feels on my skin.  It’s also light-weight and it does not feel heavy on the skin.

How does it look the skin?
When I first applied this to my skin, it seemed as though I had gotten the wrong color.  It was way too light for my skin tone.  I continued to buff it in with my blending brush and it did blend pretty well.  Key note: It does take a minute for this to blend well onto your skin.  Also, once blended I found that it looked powdery so you have to spray your skin with setting spray to alleviate that unwanted look.

Oily/ Dry/ Normal Skin?
This foundation is only great for Dry Skin and Normal Skin. I say this because the satiny feel of this foundation can feel a bit oily on an oily skin type. It may feel like this foundation will not last as long because of the two similar consistencies together; oily skin and “oily” foundation.

What is the staying power and coverage like?
I did not set my foundation with powder, but I did set it with Urban Decay’s All Night Setting Spray.  This foundation only lasted only 7 hours before I started to see my blemishes and things I was trying to cover with this foundation. And the coverage of this foundation is definitely a medium coverage foundation.

Great for dry skin
Like the satiny feel
Blends well
Easy Application

Not a lot of color options
Not for every skin type
Powdery/ Cakey finish (if not set with setting spray)
Lasts only 7 hours
No Sunscreen

Overall Rating?
worth your time
