Goodbye Fall, Hello Winter

Don’t you just LOVE Fall?!  I’m definitely going to miss it!  I didn’t get a chance to make as much clothing as I wanted because of the classes that I am currently taking.  It has been pretty hard lately juggling school, work, my blog, my Youtube channel, and most importantly, my family.  I’m still standing though (LOL!).  So, with that said, here are my favorite looks for Fall…

Home for the Holidays Series

Home for the Holidays was started last year when I started YouTube.  It’s basically me showing you things that you can make at home to give away as gifts.  They are all inexpensive yet something that I would actually love to receive. In other words, gifts that are “Cheap but Chic”!
hfh
My home for the holidays series starts TODAY and will end December 17th.  Brand new videos will be posted every Tuesday.  So you are probably thinking what I may have in store huh?  Well, I’ll have gifts for everyone on your list, including co-workers and your neighbors.  I’ll also do a DIY on a holiday dress or maybe a coat inspired the beautiful Olivia Pope.  What do you guys think? It’s all about what you guys want so comment below and let me know.

Halloween Special: Cats

Since I started sewing clothes back in April (2013), I decided that I wanted to include my children in my sewing endeavors as well. I’m excited to be adding their fashionable photos to my blog.
kidsOk, so this year I thought it was ambitious, but I really wanted to sew my son and daughter’s Halloween costume. It took me a total of four days to complete both costumes but it was all worth it in the end. My daughter chose her costume. She wanted to be a cheetah and my husband chose for my son to be a lion. The patterns that I chose to make these costumes were McCall’s M6105 (Lion) and McCall’s MO308 (Cheetah).lionpatterncheetahpatternMy daughter (4 yrs old) was a witch last year and won the costume contest last year from a costume that I bought from Walmart. This year I am proud to say that she won again!  I was super excited for her. She played it cool when her name was announced. All the parents were looking at me at the time so I had to scream in my head. My son who is 2 years old was on the run most of the time so I didn’t get many pictures of him, but I will list what I have below.  Btw, I did do both of my kids’ and my own makeup also.  Comment below and let me know what you or your kids are going as a this year.

Oxblood

Last year’s color of the year was Oxblood and it still seems to be a favorite for this year as well. It’s a rich, deep, red color that really represents the season of Fall.

I saw Mimi G with this skirt earlier this year and this was one of the things I decided to teach myself how to make.  When I tell you that it is EXTREMELY easy….I MEAN IT!!! There is no pattern needed.  All you need to know is your waist measurement and the measurement from the floor to your waist. That’s it! Mimi G sells the instructions to this skirt if you can’t seem to figure out how to make it.  She also sells these skirts for a steep price if you don’t really care to sew your own skirt.regal

Fall Jewel Tones

This weekend, my BFF and I went to the Virginia Fashion week’s main event.  We had a ton of fun. We even vlogged about the event which I will be posting on my YouTube channel soon.  Last year we went to VA Fashion week and purchased our outfits. This year we decided to go all out and sew our outfits.

So, this is my BFF, Asia. She just started sewing about 2 months ago.  I went with her to purchase her first sewing machine and we brought it home and I taught her the basics of sewing. If you need those sewing tips/lessons, check out my YouTube channel

.  You can tell that she has been practicing because her DIY High-Waist Pallazzo pants came out great.  The pattern that she chose was Burda’s 7195.  She did change the waistband and made it wider for a more “High-waist” effect.

Home Sweet Home

So my entryway was bit boring so i decided that I wanted to make aa easy custom wall art that would match the rest of the decor in my home. While scrolling Pinterest, I came across this one. It was love at first site!homesI changed it up a bit by adding a 3D effect to the  word “SWEET” and I made the same word a metallic finish. To make it as bold as the one above I am in search for the perfect at local thrift stores or yard sales taht I can paint gold. I think that’ll tie it together.
1235895_692466310782924_1651500212_nhomesweethomeThis was a pretty easy project to complete within a few hours. You can make it your own by choosing to do a phrase or children’s names.  Have fun with it and no matter what you decide, I’m sure it’ll look great.  Remember to follow me on Instagram @Cheapbutchic to see what I am doing behind the scenes and please support my channel by subscribing.

Old is New Again

If you have children, you can definitely relate with me. I have a beautiful 4 yr old baby girl and a handsome 1 yr old baby boy that love crafting like me.  They love drawing, and painting ON MY FURNITURE!  Ugghhh….You can feel my irritation right?  It doesn’t matter how much paper I give my son, he just puts his artwork on everything but…
kidsart

So, before I show you my before pictures don’t judge me. LOL! I should have completed this DIY a long time ago because the dried in food, spilled juice, and artwork isn’t a pleasant site.
ChairsCollagechairpic
Before, the cushion on my chairs were a cream colored upholstery fabric.  This time, I wanted to make sure that I protected my beautiful fabric that I chose, so I first chose a clean, white upholstery fabric with embossed circles and on top I added a light vinyl. I chose a white fabric because it has a clean, fresh finish and the vinyl will make it harder for food and drinks to stain my cushions.

You can accomplish this DIY on thrifted furniture too.  If you see something in a second hand store with a beautiful frame, grab it. Paint it, stain it, then reupholster it.  Here is the tutorial on how you can easily upcycle your old dining chairs.  If you haven’t already, please be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and comment and like this post if you are excited about Home Décor DIYs.

Transitioning into Fall: Circle Skirt

Fall is my absolute favorite season.  I love EVERYTHING about it. The smell, the food, and ofcourse, the clothes. So since Fall is around the corner, I decided to bring you the perfect Fall transitioning piece. Circle skirts are the best transitioning piece when it comes to Fall fashion.  They are perfect paired with bare legs or colored tights.

DSC_0165The pattern that I chose for this skirt is awesome for those that have never sewn a thing in their lives.  The steps in this pattern is extremely easy to follow and this skirt is so fast and easy that you may want to make more than one. I know I am!
1Black and white is a must have trend for Fall so I chose this black and white ethnic printed linen fabric. I absolutely love it! It’s color is toned down, yet the print is so bold. The fabric and pattern were both purchased at JoAnn Fabrics.
